GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin will resign from Congress early, handing another blow to Speaker Mike Johnson and his razor thin Republican majority. Once Buck and Gallagher leave, Johnson will be down to a 217-to-213 majority, meaning Republicans will only be able to lose one vote with full attendance and still be able to pass legislation. Gallagher is chairman of the high-profile Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, and Gallagher noted the hunt for a new chair once he departs in his announcement. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise downplayed the tightening majority. “It is tough with a five-seat majority, it is tough with a two-seat, one will be the same,” Scalise told CNN.

Republicans on Wednesday night's debate stage will likely direct most of their criticism at Biden instead of each other. The Georgia Republican warned Trump not to hire Laura Loomer to work on his 2024 campaign. Greene and far-right activist Loomer once publicly praised one another, but they are now feuding. The New York Times reported that Trump wanted to hire Loomer, but sources said the plan was scrapped. Greene took to Twitter on Friday to say Loomer is "mentally unstable and a documented liar" who "can not be trusted." Loomer responded with multiple tweets attacking Greene, calling her a liar and describing her behavior as "not very "Christian."

One bill that was successfully implemented, and gained national headlines for months, was Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, or what critics have dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The word “grooming” has long been associated with mischaracterizing LGBTQ people, particularly gay men and transgender women, as child sex abusers. Those losses came after some conservative groups ramped up misleading or inflammatory campaign ads targeting transgender rights.

Jim Newman, chief operating officer at Figo Pet Insurance, bought and sold stock in companies that either soared or sputtered during the pandemic, including Pfizer and Moderna, the companies behind the nation's two leading COVID-19 vaccines. Financial disclosures show Jim Newman sold up to $65,000 in Moderna stock on January 2. By February, he turned his interest to Pfizer, twice trading as much as $15,000 worth in the company's stock shares that month. For instance, Newman sold as much as $250,000 in Netflix stock in January, as much as $50,000 in Apple stock in February, and as much as $50,000 in Salesforce stock in January.
